À Descoberta do Nemas is a book that aims to raise children's awareness of the fact that words are made up of sounds, a key factor for a successful learning experience when mastering how to read and write. Centred around the classic tasks of identifying, targeting and manipulating units of sound, this guide incorporates playful and captivating activities to help children to analise the internal structure of words on 3 levels: syllables, rhymes and phonemes.

In order to embark on this adventure, children are given the task of rescuing a young seahorse called Nemas, who got into difficulty when he decided to go in search of the "Treasure Chest of Words" ("Tesouro das Palavras"). Constantly playing with sounds, children will have to face a fishing net, an anemone, an octopus and a fearsome shark! A fun mission but full of danger at the depths of the ocean...

This book is suitable for preschool children and other pupils with a limited exposure to oral tradition, and can also serve as a useful tool for parents, trainers and teachers in their quest to help children to learn how to read and write.
