Designed for 80 hours of study per level, "Festival" follows the principles outlined in the Common European framework and encourages autonomous learning throughout. The course places a large emphasis on oral communication and cultural awareness but ensures that the learning process is at a steady pace with no more than 30 new words being introduced per unit. In order to facilitate understanding, each unit has a clear and simple structure: "Pour communiquer" introduces a dialogue and a list of vocabulary; "Manières de dire" lists idioms; "Ecoutez, lisez, comprenez" consists of numerous comprehension exercises based on the dialogue; "Grammaire et vocabulaire" clarifies any grammar points that were introduced in the dialogue; "A vous..." sets students an oral or written task to do and "Civilisation" gives students additional cultural information relevant to the topic of the unit.
